The African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes (ADAM) is a not-for-profit organization that provides services for African Canadian Diaspora in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. Our programs include Integration and Referral Services, Youth Engagement Services, Health Education Services, and Multiculturalism.
Our current projects include:

Ø Addressing and Assessing HIV/AIDS issues in African Canadian Communities - funded by Public Health Agency of Canada
Ø Physical Activity Project – funded by Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection
Ø Breastfeding Eucation for African Immigrant Women – funded by Capital District Health Authority
Ø Youth Engagement Crime Prevention Project - funded by Nova Scotia Department of Justice
Mission Statement
The mission of ADAM is to encourage and foster the successful participation and integration of African Canadian Diaspora in the educational, social, political, civic, and economic activities in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes.
Vision Statement
ADAM envisions a society in which all individuals, including those of African descent, have equitable opportunities to realize their full potentials and to participate meaningfully in the building of their communities.
Objectives
- To partner with government departments, public and private organizations and agencies in attracting, recruiting, settling, integrating, and retaining African immigrants in Nova Scotia.
- To support the provision of services that encourage educational opportunities, social and economic integration and civic and political participation of all citizens, including those of African descent.
- To collaborate with government departments and agencies, public and private sector organizations to reduce labour market barriers and foster the full participation of people of African descent in economic and democratic processes in Nova Scotia and the Maritime provinces.
- To encourage and promote multiculturalism through cultural, educational, political and social networks and activities.
- To generate and maintain a comprehensive database of African Diaspora that will serve as a resource base for government, organizations, and the general public.
- To collaborate and partner with international organizations in contributing to the social and economic development of African nations.
- To sustain a collaborative and cooperative relationship with public and private agencies.
Jurisdiction
- The activities of ADAM are to be carried on within the province of Nova Scotia or within such geographical area as the Board of Directors may from time to time define.
- ADAM shall operate from Halifax.
- The registered office of ADAM shall be in the municipality of Halifax.
