Organization Information

The African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes (ADAM) is a non-profit community based organization dedicated to providing various services to assist Africans in the Maritimes. Members consist of individuals of African descent, non-African spouses of Africans, as well as individuals who share the mission, vision, and objectives of ADAM.

In 1999, a group of African intellectuals residing in Nova Scotia envisioned an organized body that would unite, assist, and support people of African descent. Through this vision, the African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes (ADAM) was founded in March 2006 with the support of several institutions such as the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration and the African Nova Scotian Affairs (ANSA).

ADAM was created to enhance African Canadian immigrants’ integration and improve their quality of life by providing services and delivering on issues that could retain African Canadian immigrants in the Maritimes. ADAM’s greatest accomplishments since its inception includes the active social and cultural involvement of the African community in the Maritimes, and the enormous recognition and support that ADAM has gained from officials and community leaders in Nova Scotia.

ADAM is looking forward to working with governmental institutions, community leaders, individuals, etc in order to implement programs that support African Canadian immigrants in areas such as: education and professional training, social and cultural integration, employment support, and all other issues relevant to African Canadian well being in  the Maritimes.

Mission

The mission of ADAM is to encourage and foster successful participation and integration of African Canadian Diaspora in the educational, social, political, civic, and economic activities in Nova Scotia and in the Maritimes. ADAM is a welcoming and integrating organization, and will strive to provide the tangible and intangible infrastructures that are needed to resettle and motivate new immigrants of African descent to stay in Nova Scotia.

Vision

ADAM envisions a society in which all individuals, including those of African descent, have equitable opportunities to realize their full potentials, and to participate meaningfully in the building of the Maritime Provinces.

Purpose

ADAM’s purpose is to provide services to its members, network with all levels of government and with other public and private organizations for the benefit of its members and the community at large.
